Your DStv decoder shows two values that matter: Signal Strength and Signal Quality. They mean different things.
Signal Strength is the raw RF power reaching the decoder. Anything above 70% is usually fine.
Signal Quality is what really matters — it shows whether the decoder can lock onto the channel. Below 60% you’ll get freezing and dropouts in light rain. Below 30% you’ll lose channels entirely.
Healthy targets: Strength 80%+ and Quality 75%+ in clear weather. If your numbers fall during light rain, your dish needs alignment or a bigger LNB.
If both numbers are low in clear weather, the dish is misaligned, the LNB is failing, or the cable run is damaged. We diagnose all three in one visit.
